The program's philosophy is based on game speed preparation and education. Our goal is to provide athletes with the knowledge, motivation, confidence and training necessary to reach their fullest athletic potential. Focus, repetition integrity, proven methods, safe progressions, and productive physical training will be our programs primary focus.

Head strength and conditioning coach Washington Nationals 2009-2015
Coach Philbin spent the last seven years as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Washington Nationals Baseball Organization (2009-2015). His primary responsibility was coordinating the major & minor league conditioning, nutritional, and supplement programs. Coach had the pleasure of working with Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Ryan Zimmerman, Max Scherzer and Adam LaRoche, Jordan Zimmermann, Tyler Clippard for many years. Philbin’s experience with numerous other professional sports and Olympic athletes brought some cutting edge & innovative conditioning methods that contributed to the teams success and injury prevention.
Working with the Nationals & MLB, Coach Philbin had the unique opportunity to give back to the community by organizing an annual conference at Nationals Park called “Baseball Injury Prevention & Peak Performance”. The focus of the conference was to bridge the gap between science and hands on application. The presenters were innovative industry leaders that attracted on average over 500 hundred medical, health & fitness professionals.
Coach Philbin is one of the most highly respected Strength & Conditioning Coaches in the nation with 25 years experience in MLB, the NFL, and the WBA. Philbin was the former Director of Conditioning & Performance for the United States Olympic Training Center where he trained both summer & winter athletes and numerous Olympic medalists. He was also the 1992 Head Coach of the US Olympic Bobsled Team & Director of Sports Science & Conditioning.
Coach Philbin was the Speed & Agility coach for the Washington Redskins for eight years under the legendary Dan Riley (1993-2000) and was an assistant in 1982-83 when the Redskins won the Super Bowl. He partnered with James Thrash, Bryan Mitchell, and Tre Johnson to open three performance-training facilities called Philbin’s Athletic Training Centers (PATC). The centers were the first of their kind in this region, and focused on educating and training youth athletes in all sports. PATC was recognized by A.F.F.A. as one of the most successful performance training centers in the country.
As an industry leader and educator Coach Philbin founded the “National Strength Professionals Association” in 1985 and has certified thousands of professional strength & conditioning coaches, as well as athletic and personal trainers across the globe. He has conducted courses & workshops in 22 countries and is a best selling author with 3 books (Human Kinetics Publishers) as well as numerous articles about athletic speed, agility, and power development. He presently teaches “The Science of Strength & Conditioning the Athlete” at the University of Maryland Kinesiology Department, which allows him the opportunity to stay on the cutting edge of research in his field.
He spent 4 years at University of Maryland (1980-83) as a conditioning coach under Frank Costello. He had the pleasure of working with Skeets Nehemiah (world record 110 M hurdles), Adrian Branch (LA Lakers WBA Champion), Boomer Esiason (NFL All-Pro), and the legendary Lenny Bias. In 1985 he spent 2 months training the English National Rugby Team in England. Coach also spent 4 years working with numerous Word Championship Boxers: Lenox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Robert Garcia, and Fernando Vargas. Some other notable world-class sprinters Coach has worked with include NFL legends Hershel Walker, Darrel Green, Willie Gault, and WR / Olympic Gold Medalist in 400 Hurdles Edwin Moses.
Coach was All-American in Track & Field as well as a member of the USA One Olympic Bobsled team. He was a four-year starter & Captain of the Frostburg State College football team and was inducted into the FSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a competitive Olympic & Power Lifter and has numerous certifications & professional affiliations.
